How do Express Entry CRS cut-offs work in 2026?
Updated
An Express Entry cut-off is the CRS score of the lowest-ranked candidate invited in a specific IRCC round, not a fixed Canada PR pass mark. To know whether it applies to you, check the draw type, eligibility criteria and tie-breaking timestamp alongside the score.
Where to find the latest Express Entry cut-off
IRCC publishes a result for each invitation round with its date, round type, number of invitations, CRS score of the lowest-ranked candidate and tie-breaking timestamp. Use the official result to confirm a threshold before making an application decision. Our weekly draw page brings the results and analysis together; an older article should not be treated as the latest round.
How to read an Express Entry draw result
Read the whole result rather than only the CRS number. First confirm the round type includes your program or category. Then compare your accurate score and check the tie-breaking timestamp if you sit at the minimum. The number of invitations tells you the round's size, not how many invitations IRCC will issue next time.
| Published field | What to check |
|---|---|
| Round date and number | You are reading the round you intended, not an older result. |
| Program or category | Your profile meets the selection criteria for this round. |
| CRS cut-off | Your score meets the lowest invited score for that round. |
| Tie-breaking timestamp | At the cut-off, your profile submission date meets the published rule. |
| Invitations issued | This round's size; it is not a forecast of future invitations. |
CEC, category-based and PNP cut-offs are not interchangeable
Each round selects from a different eligible group, so scores can differ substantially. A French-language category threshold does not apply to a CEC-only candidate who lacks the French requirements. A PNP round includes nomination points, so its headline score is not comparable to a non-nominated profile's base score.
| Draw type | Relevant candidates | Comparison caution |
|---|---|---|
| General | Candidates eligible for the programs included in the round. | Do not assume a general round is scheduled. |
| Canadian Experience Class | Candidates meeting CEC requirements. | Canadian residence alone does not establish CEC eligibility. |
| Category-based | Candidates meeting both Express Entry and that category's criteria. | A listed occupation alone may not satisfy all experience requirements. |
| Provincial Nominee Program | Candidates with an accepted Express Entry-linked nomination. | The CRS total includes 600 nomination points. |
What happens if your CRS equals the draw cut-off?
IRCC uses a tie-breaking rule when candidates share the lowest invited score. The result specifies a date and time based on when the Express Entry profile was submitted. Being at the cut-off does not mean every tied profile is invited. Check the exact published timestamp and your account rather than treating the score alone as confirmation of an invitation.
Why Express Entry cut-offs rise or fall
The threshold reflects the eligible pool and the number invited in that particular round. Changes in draw size, the time between comparable rounds, new high-scoring profiles, nominations and selection categories can affect it. A falling threshold in one category is not proof that CEC or general cut-offs will also fall. IRCC does not promise the next draw's date, size or score.
November 3 rule changes and future cut-off predictions
The November 3 article covers the announced scoring changes, but it cannot establish the cut-off for a draw that has not happened. Keep current-rule scores and calculator previews separate. Once changes take effect, confirm your recalculated score in your IRCC account and compare it with new rounds under those rules. Avoid guaranteed-score predictions or claims that a particular increase will secure an invitation.
What to do if your score is below the latest relevant cut-off
Measure the gap against your eligible draw type, then compare language, education and work-experience improvements using your own profile. Check whether a provincial stream fits your occupation, ties and settlement intentions. Keep your profile accurate and monitor comparable rounds instead of relying on a single low-score headline from another category.

More questions
What is the latest Express Entry cut-off in 2026?
The latest threshold depends on the round type. Check IRCC's official rounds page or our weekly draw results, then select the most recent round your profile qualifies for; there is no single threshold for all applicants.
Will the next Express Entry cut-off go down?
That cannot be guaranteed. Round size, eligible pool composition and the time between comparable rounds can move the threshold in either direction.
Why did someone with a lower CRS score receive an invitation?
They may have qualified for a different program or category with a lower cut-off. Compare the round's selection criteria, not only their score, before drawing conclusions about your own profile.
Why are PNP draw cut-offs so high?
An accepted Express Entry-linked provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points. The published PNP threshold includes those points; it is not a minimum base score for non-nominated candidates.
Does meeting the cut-off guarantee an ITA?
You must also qualify for the round, and at the lowest invited score the tie-breaking timestamp matters. Your IRCC account is the place to confirm that an invitation was issued.
Can I use pre-November 3 cut-offs to predict my invitation?
Older rounds provide historical context, not a guaranteed forecast under changed scoring rules. Confirm your updated IRCC score and compare subsequent rounds with matching eligibility.
